The College of Sharia participated in organizing the first conference for students of Sharia faculties in Jordanian universities, in cooperation with the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ), entitled (The water reality in Jordan... Challenges and solutions from an Islamic perspective). The conference was held virtually on the Zoom application. It was sponsored by His Excellency Dr. Muhammad Al-Khalayleh - Minister of Endowments, Islamic Affairs and Sanctities, on Saturday, 12/12/2020, and was broadcast on the conference website on the (Facebook) application.
Professor Dr. Adnan Mahmoud Al-Assaf, Dean of the College, delivered a speech by the deans of the Sharia colleges, in which he explained that the conference aims to motivate students to research and consider national priorities and what is related to the reality of society and its problems, based on the keenness of the Sharia colleges to move forward in supporting the process of national progress and construction and achieving the vision. High ownership of the strategic goals of higher education, and preserving water and improving behavior in dealing with it is something that affects humanity and its future. Hence the project to improve community water use in cooperation with religious institutions to conserve water and spread its culture.
An elite group of students from the eight Sharia faculties participated in the conference with research papers that addressed a number of important topics, including those related to the existing challenges in the water reality in Jordan, and ways to deal with them from an Islamic perspective, and some that anticipate sustainable development and the role of water conservation in achieving it, which embodies principles
  Well-established in our true religion as the principle of rebuilding the earth and man’s succession in it, some of which highlight the role of youth, the hope of the nation and future leaders, and their desired role in managing the crisis and solving its problems, while shedding light on the good results achieved by the H2O student teams, which work in our Jordanian universities under the supervision of their professors within Community water use improvement project activities.
The conference participants reached a number of recommendations, which were read by Professor Dr. Abdel Majeed Al-Salahin:
First: Spreading environmental awareness among people, through special programs for water awareness, and activating the role of the media and newspapers so that they include multiple aspects in modifying water behaviors by preventing waste, and promoting the importance of preserving water resources and not wasting them.
Second: Activating the institutional and societal role in improving the efficiency of water use, starting with children at home, then educational guidance in schools, universities, and civil society institutions to reach the optimal solution in controlling behaviors related to water use.
Third: At the level of educational curricula in schools: It is recommended to add lessons on how Islam addresses the problem of water shortages, and raising awareness of the provisions of water in Islamic jurisprudence, to be added to the Islamic education subject, and other lessons on executive mechanisms and procedures to address the challenges facing the water problem in Jordan to be added to the national education subject. .
Fourth: At the level of educational curricula in universities: It is recommended to include water issues and problems in curricula and various awareness platforms in a way that is commensurate with the magnitude of the challenges facing Jordan.
Fifth: Emphasis on implementing projects that improve the efficiency of water use in universities, such as: building purification stations for all ablutions in all university faculties, and reducing water waste through: regularly irrigating university crops within the hours, days, and quantities used, and using a water pump of the size Suitable for the space of each university’s mosque.
Sixth: Holding seminars, conferences and workshops across universities and governmental and civil society institutions, to raise the skill and knowledge capabilities of officials, researchers and students, by exchanging experiences and supporting sustainable development projects and investing in the role of institutions in the field of awareness and guidance to people about the necessity of saving water resources, and activating the role of (role model youth). To change the behavioral pattern in water use problems.
  Seventh: Highlighting the role of Islam H20 teams, by making special publications to introduce their programs and goals, and enhancing the role of volunteer work in them by training them and raising their efficiency and expertise in programs to improve water use efficiency, through all teams in universities.
Eighth: On the scope of national projects: Calling for directing the relevant ministries, such as the Ministry of Energy and the Ministry of Water, to implement hydropower projects, which would mitigate the aggravation of the problem of the environment and climate change, and reduce the costs of electricity production by producing it from hydropower projects.
Ninth: Activating Islamic legal provisions in the service of water projects, at the university and national levels, through water endowment projects, water harvesting projects, and projects to revive dead land, which brings great economic and environmental benefit, and contributes to maintaining food security, and obtaining Safe water.
Tenth: Activating the role of mosque preachers and preachers, through: training them to deal with the public in delivering the water awareness message in a successful manner, and involving them in local community service projects to support the awareness aspect and behavioral improvement in water provisions and its use.
Eleventh: On the scale of societal culture: holding research competitions at several levels, to support new innovative ideas to improve the efficiency of water use, preserve water wealth, and enhance legal understanding in dealing with water.
  The conference participants expressed their sincere thanks and gratitude to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, the first sponsor and incubator of development projects at the local and international levels. They also appreciated the role of the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) for its ongoing initiatives in sponsoring and supporting water-related projects in Jordan. They also expressed their thanks for the role of the Ministry of Endowments and Affairs. And the Islamic holy sites, the Ministry of Water and Irrigation, and the Fatwa Department, in their cooperation and participation in the honorable conference, and in their continued cooperation with the Sharia colleges in Jordanian universities, in a project to improve the efficiency of water use in Jordan, and they appreciated the role of Jordanian universities in general and colleges Sharia in particular for its distinguished role in implementing initiatives and projects in cooperation with the German Agency and the relevant ministries in all fields related to the project to improve water efficiency in Jordan.
