Master in Islamic Studies / Program Overview

An overview of the program and its main subjects:

The Department of the Study of Islam in the Contemporary World was established at the University of Jordan in the academic year 2009/2010, based on the university's humanitarian and international goals of spreading intellectual and cultural awareness and strengthening relations between people on the basis of mutual respect. The opening of this department in this era in particular comes in line with the urgent need to clarify the bright and moderate image of Islam at a time when confusion abounds and the need to demonstrate the tolerance of this great religion increases. Since the message of Islam is a message of mercy to the world, and a message of argument, statement and thought, and since the voice of reason prevails over the voice of violence and its consequences of mutual hatred between people, disbelief and rejection of the other. Whereas the University of Jordan is the pioneer of higher education institutions in Jordan, and the vanguard of thought in the Jordan of goodness and generosity, and is qualified by location, status and competence, and whereas the Amman Message explicitly stipulated by the consensus of a group of Ummah scholars that our true religion has the capacity to accommodate and respect others, and that it is a religion of mercy, invitation and goodness for all people, and that it is a religion of tolerance, forgiveness and respect for covenants and covenants. It gave life its lofty status and established the foundation for science, reflection and thinking that made it possible to establish a solid Islamic civilization. The establishment of this department came to contribute to the realization of these lofty meanings and to consolidate their existence in the lived reality, from an academic and research perspective that is specialized and deep.
