Organizing a specialized training event entitled: “Digital Assets and Islamic Finance: Establishing an Understanding of Blockchain and the New Economy”

As part of the professional development program implemented by the Faculty of Sharia at the University of Jordan for its students, the Department of Islamic Banking, in cooperation with Manjem Academy – the academic arm of Manjem Capital – organized a specialized training event entitled:

“Digital Assets and Islamic Finance: A Foundation for Understanding Blockchain and the New Economy.”

The event was presented by Professor Yazan Arafat – Head of Education and Awareness at the “Manjem” project, and a researcher and investor in blockchain technology and digital assets since 2016 – targeting students of the department to introduce them to the digital transformations in the financial sector and their connection to the rulings and principles of Islamic Sharia.

The event spanned five days and covered several topics, including: the evolution of digital money, blockchain technology, smart contracts, crypto assets, and central bank digital currencies (CBDCs). It also included discussions of the Sharia and jurisprudential perspectives on these developments, along with practical applications and in-depth discussions on the compatibility of decentralized finance (DeFi) with Sharia principles.

The event included interactive competitions where students had the chance to win cash and symbolic prizes, including Satoshis – the smallest unit of Bitcoin – as well as discount cards for courses offered by the academy. This practical step aimed to bring students closer to the reality of digital assets.

This initiative played a significant role in bridging the gap between traditional knowledge of Islamic economics and the demands of the digital age, and in preparing a generation of graduates capable of effectively contributing to leading the digital transformation within Islamic financial institutions.

In conclusion, certificates of participation were distributed to the students, who expressed their satisfaction with the content presented and its impact on expanding their knowledge and professional understanding of the future economy.
